At 1600, and with number 2 engine on fire, aircraft "Exploded" broke up and fell into the water. Fighters scored hits on the No. 2 engine and put a rocket in the No. 3 engine. Seven of Ehert's crew bailed out but two parachutes were on fire. The other five perished in the freezing waters of the North Sea.
